KAWASAKI MICROELECTRONICS (K-MICRO) JOINS
OPEN CORE PROTOCOL INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP
(OCP-IP)
PORTLAND, ORE. — September 21, 2004 —Open Core Protocol International Partnership (OCP-IP), the association providing a common standard for intellectual property core interfaces, or sockets, that facilitate "plug and play" SoC design, today announced that Kawasaki Microelectronics (K-micro) has joined the organization. Utilizing OCP technology allows K-micro’s customers to reduce design times, risks and costs and quickly introduce highly-competitive solutions.
“OCP technology is a key element in our Matrix ASIC initiative”, said Hideki Yoneda, executive vice-president of K-micro. “By incorporating OCP-based IP in their K-micro Matrix ASIC, customers will lower NRE costs and speed up time-to-market for derivative ASICs. We plan to incorporate OCP technology in both our existing and new ASIC intellectual property (IP) cores, such as USB 2.0 and PCI-Express. K-micro commends OCP-IP for driving OCP to become a widely used and adopted socket interface for SoC designs.”
OCP-IP members receive free training and support, free software tools, and free documentation, enabling members to focus on the challenges of SoC design. Leveraging OCP-IP’s powerful free infrastructure eliminates the need to design, document, train and evolve a proprietary standard and support tools, freeing up critical resources for the real design work and providing enormous cost savings.
“The SoC market is moving quickly towards a platform-based development approach, making industry collaboration
essential”, said Ian Mackintosh, president OCP-IP. “OCP IP is leading the way in driving industry collaboration
and sharing this vision with the SoC design community; K-micro shares this vision for our industry.”
