Kawasaki Microelectronics Adds USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Certified Macro to its 0.13μ ASIC Library
Low-cost, Low-power USB 2.0 Solution for ASICs Used in Consumer Electronics Products, Including Laser Printers and Set-top Boxes
SAN JOSE, Calif. December 9, 2003 Kawasaki Microelectronics, a leader in advanced yet affordable ASICs, announced today that it has added a USB 2.0 hi-speed certified macro to its 0.13μ ASIC library. The new macro includes a UTMI-compliant PHY, a 16-bit serial interface engine (SIE), and a 33MHz/32-bit PCI-bus interface. Developed by Kawasaki, the macro is fully compatible with Kawasakis extensive selection of USB 1.1 and 2.0 ASSP devices, as well as any other third-party USB 2.0 hi-speed certified device. Customers can immediately use this macro to add a USB 2.0 interface to their Kawasaki 0.13μ ASIC designs.
"Kawasakis USB 2.0 solutions have proven very effective for us," said John Gade, ASIC materials engineer, Imaging and Printing Group of HP. "The benefits gained by porting this technology to 0.13μ will make it an even more attractive solution for ASICs for consumer electronics products."
According to Joel Silverman, vice president of business development at Kawasaki, "our new macro is an excellent USB 2.0 solution for ASICs used in consumer electronics products such as laser printers and set-top boxes because of its low cost, small die size, integrated PCI-bus interface, and suitability for bus-power applications requiring low power consumption. Kawasaki has been a leader in the USB market, shipping USB 2.0 hi-speed certified products for more than three years. By porting our proven technology to the advanced 0.13μ TSMC process, we believe we will offer customers a superior solution, allowing us to expand our market leadership."
